Phosphate Coating

Phosphate conversion coating for threads and machined parts to resist galling and corrosion.

Overview

Phosphate coating creates a fine crystalline layer on steel that holds lubricant, reduces galling on threaded connections and adds a first layer of corrosion protection.

Mersal Group applies phosphate coating to threaded connections, couplings and machined components, both for our own products and for parts supplied by customers.

Scope of work

Threaded connections
Phosphating of pin and box threads on couplings, subs and crossovers.
Machined components
Treatment of flanges, spools and precision parts.
Anti-galling protection
A lubricant-holding surface that helps connections make up smoothly.
Corrosion protection
Phosphate layer sealed with oil for storage and transport.

How we work

Cleaning & degreasing
Parts are cleaned to remove oil, grease and machining residues.
Surface activation
Surfaces are conditioned so a fine, even crystal layer can form.
Phosphating
Parts are immersed in a controlled phosphating bath.
Rinse & seal
Parts are rinsed and sealed with a protective oil.
Inspection
Coating colour and uniformity are checked before release.
